Returning to work after a long spell of unemployment is difficult, but made worse if you’re rough sleeping.
Julie often talked about wanting a ‘normal’ life free from financial and emotional hardship but had struggled with her confidence after years of rough sleeping. In order to rebuild her confidence, Shelter sought funds through Change into Action to buy a cooker, fridge-freezer, and washing machine. This helped Julie to have a healthier diet and keep on top of her washing regularly. Being able to look after herself properly had a hugely positive effect on Julie’s mental health and self-esteem.
A support worker from Shelter said: “ This has been a significant step for Julie, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Change into Action. Being able to do more things for herself has helped Julie’s confidence and she has now applied for jobs at a local fast food restaurant.”
