About Change into Action - the network that is hard at work

Walsall is committed to addressing rough sleeping and homelessness in the borough. We are working closely with individuals and investing time and support into changing lives. This work is supported by local organisations, charities and outreach services within the local area.

The network that is hard at work

Change into Action is an alternative giving scheme supporting specialist charities and street teams working to change the circumstances of rough sleepers.

Change into Action is a partnership between Walsall Council, the Mayor of the West Midlands and the West Midlands Combined Authority aimed at addressing rough sleeping.

Some of the heroes behind the scenes

Without a network of specialist outreach and support teams and dedicated organisations working with vulnerable individuals, it is difficult for any help to make long term changes. Here are just some of the heroes behind the scenes and the work they do.

St Basils

St Basils work with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping over 5000 young people every year.

Fry Accord

Fry Accord is contracted to work with Walsall Council’s Rough Sleepers Team to provide the local Housing First Project. The team behind this project provide help to maintain tenancies. Service users can get access to specialist support in-home and within their community.

Street Teams

Street Teams work with vulnerable people who have been on the streets as sex workers in the past and who are still at risk of exploitation. This project secures accommodation for service users and help maintain their tenancies with bespoke wrap around support.

YMCA Black Country Group

YMCA Black County work with Walsall Council's Rough Sleepers Team to provide a night shelter and support for rough sleepers from October through to the following March. The Group also run a multi-functional hub, known as The Glebe Centre, based in the town centre. This hub delivers a wide range of Walsall services to vulnerable adults from skilled staff and volunteers. Service users can get a hot meal along with specialist support from GPs, a community psychiatric nurse and a needle exchange. YMCA also run an open door host programme across the Black Country, offering temporary accommodation to young people who are homeless.

Walsall Housing Group (WHG)

Walsall Housing Group (WHG) is the largest social housing provider in Walsall. It provides affordable homes and accommodates rough sleepers in Walsall through the Housing First Project. WHG also works in partnership with Walsall Council to provide a young person's shared accommodation scheme which provides shelter to young homeless people and gives them the support they need.

The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together provide emergency food and support to individuals and families locked in poverty.

The Beacon

The Beacon runs a specialist drug and alcohol service within the Walsall borough for young people and adults.

Ablewell Advice

Ablewell Advice Centre has experienced staff to support Walsall people with welfare benefit and debt advice. The centre also runs job clubs and a local food bank.

Nash Dom

Nash Dom runs a service from Walsall Civic Centre assisting individuals and families of EU, EEA or Roma heritage to feel part of the local community. Various services are on offer to these individuals and their families.

Street Support Network works to connect people and organisations to support those who need it the most. Street Support West Midlands can help you to find help, give help and learn about homelessness.
